To find articles on specific topics, use the DATABASES (available from the Library homepage via English/Literature Resources or Databases by Title)
[edit] Literary Criticism:
- MLA Bibliography: References to sources on literature, language and film. (1963-pres.)
- LION: Provides text, criticism and biographical information of English and American authors.
[edit] Literary Biography/Criticism
- Literature Resource Center: Biographical information on authors as well as
overviews of their work and some criticism.
[edit] Contemporary Book and Film Reviews
- Book Review Index Online: (1969-present) references to book reviews in 500 publications
- New York Times (1999-present): good for contemporary book and film reviews.
- New York Times (1851-1998): for reviews of works published during this times period.
- LexisNexis (1990-present): includes many newspapers and periodicals including New York
Times and New Yorker magazine, also good for book reviews.
- Academic Search Premier: general database that covers a variety of topics including book
and film reviews.

- JSTOR: backfile of scholarly articles on many academic topics.
- Project Muse: Full-text journals in literature, performing arts and other topics.

- SHARC: library catalog which has references to books by and about authors.
- WorldCat: worldwide catalog of books and other materials. Useful for finding the table
of contents for short story collections.

- Search for Author as Subject to find criticism and other information about an author (in
LION and the library catalog, use keywords in MLA Bibliography)
- Search for keywords in the title to find articles on a specific book, short story or poem
- If you can’t find enough criticism on a specific work, look for good articles on other works
by the author.
- When the full-text of an article is not available, search the electronic journals for the
journal needed, then search appropriate database for the article that you need.
- You can also search the library catalog to see if we subscribe to that journal in print.
- Article linker will help you find a journal article in another database, in the library catalog,
or request it from another library.
- If at first you don’t succeed, try another database!
