A digital collection of materials located at The Massachusetts Historical Society detailing Massachusetts role in the debate over slavery. The collection includes photographs, paintings, sculptures, engravings, artifacts, banners, and broadsides.

Provides links to digital materials related to Polk both within and outside of the Library of Congress collections.

  • The American Left Ephemera Collection A digital collection of ephemera (flyers, buttons, leaflets, etc.) from the Socialist Party of America (SPUSA), Communist Party of the USA (CPUSA), and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).

Provides background information as well as links to information on the Civil Rights Movement including historical news footage.

A collection of 500 broadsides from the years 1707 to 1891 in Britain. These items were sold at public executions, most detailing the crime, the trial, and the punishment.

A blog consisting of the transcripts of letters written by British soldier William Henry Bonser Lamin during World War 1. Letters are being posted on the blog 90 years to the day that they were written.

  • Africa Focus: Sights and Sounds of a Continent
    Produced by the University of Wisconsin Libraries this site provides access to over 3,000 slides, 500 photographs, and 30 hours of sounds from 45 different African countries as well as full-text documents relating to the study of Africa.
  • African Activist Archive
    This project is preserving records and memories of activism in the United States to support the struggles of African peoples against colonialism, apartheid, and social injustice from the 1950s through the 1990s.
  • South Africa: Overcoming Apartheid, Building Democracy
    This resource presents first-hand accounts of this political movement. Interviews with South African activists, raw video footage documenting mass resistance and police repression, historical documents, rare photographs, and original narratives tell this remarkable story.
  • Community Video Education Trust
    The Community Video Education Trust (CVET) in Cape Town is building a digital archive of videos taken in South Africa in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
